Asphalt Mixing Plant

What Is Bitumen Melter?

GerryJarl

Bitumen Melter is a device used to heat and melt solid asphalt, which is widely used in road construction, waterproofing and other asphalt related industries. Bagged Bitumen Melters are more common in countries with cold climates, while Drum Bitumen Melters are more noticeable in lower latitudes. This is because the climatic conditions and engineering needs of different regions have a preference for the type of Bitumen Melter.

Bagged Bitumen Melting Equipment

The bagged bitumen melting equipment consists of four main parts: melting chamber, lifting device, thermal oil furnace and pipeline.

1. Melting chamber: the melting chamber is the core part of the equipment, usually consists of 3 or 5 feed ports and a heating chamber. It adopts skid-mounted structure, which is convenient for transportation and relocation. The melting chamber is arranged with high temperature heat conduction oil pipe, through the heat conduction oil will transfer the heat to the asphalt, so that it will melt quickly.

2. Lifting device: the lifting device consists of lifting bracket and electric hoist, which is used to lift the bagged asphalt to the height of the melting chamber. The device adopts assembled structure and is connected by bolts for easy transportation and installation.

3. Heat-conducting oil furnace: The heat-conducting oil furnace is the equipment to provide heat energy, which heats the heat-conducting oil to a certain temperature and then conveys it to the heat-conducting oil pipe in the melting chamber through the pipeline. The heat-conducting oil circulates in the melting chamber and transfers the heat to the asphalt to make it melt.

4. Piping: Seamless piping conveys the heat transfer oil from the heat transfer furnace to the heating device in the melting chamber to ensure that the heat can be transferred to the asphalt evenly and quickly.

The workflow of the Bitumen Melter in bags

1. Starting the thermal oil furnace: Firstly, the thermal oil furnace needs to be turned on so that it starts to heat up and get ready to provide heat for the melting chamber.

2. Transportation and Positioning: The bags containing asphalt are transported directly under the lifting equipment to ensure accurate position for subsequent operation.

3. Unpacking & Clamping: The bags are manually removed and the solid lumps of bitumen are clamped using special jigs to ensure the integrity and safety of the bitumen during movement.

4. Lifting and moving: start the electric hoist, the asphalt block lifting and lateral movement to the top of any one of the melting chamber inlet, to ensure that the alignment in order to smooth input.

5. Put into the melting chamber: open the hatch of the melting chamber, put the asphalt block into the melting chamber, ready to start the melting process.

6. Initial decomposition: After being heated in the melting chamber, the solid bitumen will be divided into smaller pieces, which will then fall into the heating chamber.

7. Melting process: the heating chamber of the high-temperature thermal oil pipe will be small pieces of asphalt gradually melted into liquid asphalt, this process takes a certain amount of time.

8. Application of liquid asphalt: once the asphalt is completely melted, the liquid asphalt will be pumped to the storage device for subsequent use, such as asphalt mixture preparation or other industrial uses.

Precautions for Bitumen Melter

1. Foundation Setting: Set the foundation correctly according to the drawing provided by the manufacturer to ensure the stability and safety of the equipment.

2. Inspection before first use: Before the first use, the pipes, valves, heat transfer oil furnace and other key parts of the asphalt melting furnace should be fully inspected to ensure that they are intact and correctly installed.

3. Daily cleaning and maintenance: Regularly clean the heating tank to keep its interior clean, and ensure that the outlet pipe is unobstructed, so as not to affect the normal melting and flow of asphalt.

4. Regular Maintenance: Carry out regular maintenance on the key components of the heat transfer oil furnace, including replacing worn parts, checking the sealing, etc., to ensure the long-term stable operation of the equipment.

5. Safety Observation: Observe the working condition of the heat exchanger and other key components frequently, once there is leakage or other abnormalities, it should be shut down immediately to check and deal with it, so as to ensure the safety of the operators and the intactness of the equipment.
